Only Oysters Self sabotage

February is nearly upon us and you’ve already made great strides in Changing your life. Oh, wait… You haven’t? In this article I want to share how you can. Because you’re not an Oyster.

Self-sabotage comes in many forms. Procrastination, perfectionism, “other priorities,” are just a few of them.

Its almost February 2022. Can you believe it? Those holiday and festive memories, once so fondly recounted, are already fading. They’re gathering dust. Just like those new-year’s resolutions you made.

Late December / early January, when the chaos of 2021 was winding down a bit, you took a few moments of self-reflection to reminisce on the year past and plan the year ahead. It’s time, you said, to make that Change. You determined to make 2022 the year of… (Insert your particular change-value here).

And nothing happened.

Or maybe something happened and then nothing further happened.

Why?

Something got in your way. Was it you?

Did you self-sabotage?

Self-sabotage comes in many forms. Procrastination, perfectionism, “other priorities,” are just a few of them.
But why? Why did you self-sabotage?

There are many reasons. Maybe we fear the unknown. Maybe the familiar is a far easier path to walk. Better the devil you know, so to speak.

To me, though, these are all layers of the same pearl. Why a pearl, and not an onion, if self-sabotage makes you cry? Well, a natural pearl forms when some kind of irritant works its way into an oyster. Then, the oyster secretes a fluid to coat that irritant. Like us, the oyster covers its irritation with a lustrous appeal, right? I digress.

Layers of perfectionism and procrastination and other suddenly-more-important things are added to ease the suffering caused by that irritant.

But what if that irritant was a diamond shard? Or a teensy little gold nugget? What if the cause of your self-sabotage was a gift in disguise?

What if you’re not an oyster?

So what’s at the heart of the pearl that we need to address?

The block that’s holding you back; the real reason why you self-sabotage is… fanfare please… A deep-seated subconscious belief that the Change you want to bring about in your life is not available to you; or a belief that you’re not worthy of it.

Of course I’m worthy, you say.

Yes.

You are worthy.

But maybe your subconscious mind needs to hear that.

You are worthy.

But maybe your subconscious mind needs to hear that.

You see your brain has one job. One. To keep you alive.

That means it must keep you safely tucked in a familiar shell.

Maybe an old, dysfunctional self-sabotaging belief is waiting for you to pluck it out and replace it with something even more valuable: You.

You see your brain has one job. One. To keep you alive. That means it must keep you safely tucked in a familiar shell. Good Lord, dare you venture out you’ll be all squishy and vulnerable and… DEATH!

Or pain. Or both.

Because Change is painful.

I know this from first-hand experience. I’m changing my life and it hurts. I’m having to boldly go where not many have gone before; and where fewer still go regularly: Inwards.

I’m also having to go outwards; to reach out to people like me; to say Change is a shit-ton of anxiety and worry and whirlwind-style panic; and to say… We can help each other.

I’m doing it. As a Hypnotherapist I’m working through my blocks; and as a Hypnotherapist I can help you do the same.

If you’d like to hear somebody corroborate what you’ve suspected all along – that you’re actually more powerful than you can imagine – then book a session or a call with me.

You can continue to self-sabotage. But you don’t have to.

You’re not an oyster.

SCHEDULE YOUR SESSION

If any of this has resonated with you, and if you’re yearning to make a change, book a discovery call with me. It’s only about 20 minutes and its free. Maybe 20 minutes could change the next 20 years. Maybe you don’t have to panic to change your life.
